Ban Coal-Fired Power Plant Near Mt. Malindang

The local government units and government officials of Misamis Occidental especially in Ozamiz City must realize that, by looking back at the slow phase of industrialization and commercial developments in the City several decades ago is actually a blessing in disguise for the ozamiznons who still enjoy the fresh and unpolluted air and environment in the city and province as a whole.

the paramount obligation of the government is to protect the life and nature of Mt. Malindang and its surroundings. The mountain with its natural beauty and resources has gifted and given all ozamiznons and misamisnons, their children and future generations with so much and abundant supply of food, water and shelter.

Rather than seek and invite the hazards of putting up a coal-fired power plant in Ozamiz and in any area of Mt. Malindang, the economic benefit from the coal power plant does not justify the vast detriment and destruction of Mt. Malindang's natural resources and surroundings like the Panguil Bay due to coal's poisonous waste materials and air pollution.

There is no better explanation to justify the ban of this poisonous power generation by recollecting and stating again and again the fact that in 1971, Mt. Malindang was declared as a national park and watershed area under Republic Act No. 6266 (in relation to RA No. 7586) and subsequently declared as a natural park in 2004 under RA No. 9304.

WE support the movement of ozamiznons and misamisnons against the construction of coal-fired power plant in Ozamiz, much less in any part of the province.

"Protesters Say NO to coal in Ozamiz"

Protect our forest and natural resources in Mt. Malindang.

Coal-Fired Power Plant is banned and illegal. It is the main source of main pollutant - carbon.

PH aims to cut carbon by 70 percent by 2030. This policy does not support the proposed power plant in Misamis.

On Aug. 4, 2012, the Asean Centre for biodiversity designated the MMRNP as an Asean Heritage Park. The ACB defines AHP as protected areas of high conservation importance, preserving in total a complete spectrum of ecosystems in asean region.
