KAHAYAHAY SA HOYOHOY!



The Weather.

No. It's not about the cold weather of Baguio. Nor the cool breeze and foggy afternoon of Tagaytay. It's bigger. It's higher. It's Hoyohoy of Mt. Malindang of Misamis Occidental. This gigantic backdraft of Ozamiz stands as high as 8,000 feet above sea level, higher and mightier than Baguio and Tagaytay. So why it's hayahay in Hoyohoy.

Simply the experience. a walk in the sky, the panoramic look over the city of ozamiz and vast lands of misamis occidental facing lanao del norte and misamis oriental, and silvery glimpse of iligan and panguil bay from the horizon.

The first visit to hoyohoy just last September 27, 2011, after growing up more than 40 years of urban living in manila, and being a misamisnon at that, is unbelievable. The southwinds and beautiful sights of Hoyohoy was an experience worthy of another.

T'was a rainy and windy saturday morning, riding in a small multicab with Allan, my hi-school classmate, up to the slope of mt. malindang. Few yards before we reach the gate of Hoyohoy house, we encountered a small problem - running out of gas on the uphill road. Not bad at all. In fact I loved it - experiencing the unexpected along the winding slope of malindang. So Allan called for a help of habal-habal motobikers for a gallon of fuel.


The view of Ozamiz city is breathtaking. The place is undeniably relaxing.

With the recent opening of the shoreline by-pass road or boulevard from the port of ozamiz to the southern highway (to Pagadian), the new provincial and local government should now rethink and strengthen its resolve and efforts on how to develop the decades of neglected Bukagan Hill. This historical hill used to be the beacon of hope and safety of the american-misamisnon WW2 guerilla soldiers housing two big spanish bells to warn them of the approaching japanese during the war. The newly completed boulevard or by-pass road makes it now easy to access this site by foot or vehicles to the hilltop and thus, added to the natural attractions of Bukagan Hill as potential tourism spot of Ozamiz and Misamis Occidental. It is now incumbent upon the new government to start the planning and development in motion, including the declaration of Bukahan Hill as heritage site. Lala's EcoPark - The Secret Mountain Resort in Ozamiz

Ever heard of Stimson Abordo? No, it's not an american name neither a foreign town. It's the new name of a certain barangay in Ozamiz City formerly the barangay of Montol. Montol as we used to recall is a scenic mountain top (or elevated barrio) of Mt. Malindang with a baguio or tagaytay-like weather condition during december months, with an elevation of 250meters above sea level. From this site, you have a panoramic view of ozamiz, panguil bay and part of lanao del norte. 2.9-km Ozamiz Coastal Bypass Road finally opens

"The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the 2.935-kilometer Ozamis Coastal Bypass Road that now serves as a diversion road from the busy main roads of Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental. DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said DPWH Misamis Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Carol Lyn C. Abinales recently inaugurated the road section, which was constructed in the amount of P138 million. The new Ozamis Coastal Bypass Road traverses the city’s Barangay Bongbong, Malaubang, and San Roque then to Port Road, which can be used by motorists without using Ozamis-Pagadian Road and Vicente Ostia Avenue,” said DE Abinales. DE Abinales added that they are also proposing for the extension of the coastal bypass road up to Barangay Catadman, to provide further convenience in traveling around the Ozamiz City.
